Chinese Massacre of 1871Oct 24th, 1871

On this day in 1871, a mob of around 500 white and mestizo people entered Chinatown in Los Angeles and attacked, robbed, and murdered Chinese residents in what one historian called "the largest mass lynching in American history".

Iceland Women's Strike (1975)Oct 24th, 1975

On this day in 1975, approximately 90% of Icelandic women struck for equality, not attending jobs or doing any domestic work. Iceland passed an equal pay law the following year, but the strike has been repeated several times since.
