Black Hawk Surrenders (1832)Aug 27th, 1832

Black Hawk was an indigenous leader who fought to reoccupy lands seized by the U.S. On this day in 1832, he surrendered following an Army massacre of hundreds of warriors and their families after they had attempted to surrender on August 2nd.

The London Tailors' Strike, conducted by Jewish immigrants working in small tailoring workshops in Whitechapel, began on this day in 1889. By September, more than 10,000 workers were participating in the strike.

On this day in 1934, lettuce cutters went on strike in Salinas Valley, California, demanding official union recognition and a wage increase, leading to the creation of one of the first Filipino unions in the United States.
